A double board-certified orthopedic sports surgeon, researcher, New York Times bestselling author, and keynote speaker, Dr. Vonda Wright has spent more than 25 years studying how our bones, muscles, joints, and movement shape the way we age. She shares why she redirected her expertise toward women in midlife, the standard of care women deserve, and why our strongest decades are built by design.
Dr. Vonda Wright was already at the top of her field when perimenopause changed the way her own body felt and performed. She was a double board-certified orthopedic surgeon, faculty member at a leading orthopedic department, head team physician for a Division I football program, and competitive athlete training for triathlons. Then, at 47, she began experiencing widespread pain, brain fog, changes in body composition, and unfamiliar weakness.
When the medical system offered few useful answers, Vonda returned to the research and began rebuilding her own approach from the ground up. That experience ultimately led her to dedicate the second half of her career to giving women the roadmap she had needed herself.
Since, she has built an audience of millions of followers on multiple platforms, a podcast, a bone supplement, and the Unbreakable book published by Penguin Random House. Her comprehensive Unbreakable framework brings together clinical care, research, education, speaking, books, media, products, and a comprehensive digital longevity program. Through this work, she is helping women understand how bone loss, muscle loss, hormonal change, metabolism, and mobility are connected, and giving them practical ways to act before decline becomes a diagnosis.
Tell us about yourself and what you’re building.

I am a double board-certified orthopedic sports surgeon, researcher, author, speaker, athlete, and mother. For more than 25 years, my work has centered on how our bones, muscles, joints, and movement determine not only how long we live, but how fully we are able to live.
At 47, my own body stopped cooperating. I was training for triathlons, working as an orthopedic surgeon, and living the life I had built when I began experiencing pain, brain fog, changes in my body composition, and weakness I had never felt before.
I was in perimenopause, and medicine had very little to offer me.
I went back into the research and began rebuilding my protocols from the ground up. What I learned changed the direction of my work. Bone loss, muscle loss, and metabolic change are real, but they are also modifiable. Women deserve to understand those changes early enough to do something about them.
Today, I am building an Unbreakable generation of women. The Unbreakable framework brings together my clinical work, research, speaking, podcast, books, events, products, and the Unbreakable Lifestyle.
The Unbreakable Lifestyle is a complete digital longevity program that gives women access to protocols, workouts, nutrition guidance, bone-health education, and a community of women building their strongest decades together. It is designed to move women beyond fragmented information and give them a practical roadmap for strength, mobility, and long-term independence.
My goal is to help women understand that their future is not predetermined. Aging is something we can actively shape through the choices we make and the strength we build now.

What’s a belief about success, work, or how women should be treated that you live by?
Women are not smaller men. Almost every major longevity study was built on male physiology. That ends here.
For too long, women have been expected to accept pain, fatigue, weakness, bone loss, muscle loss, and physical decline as inevitable parts of aging.
Their symptoms have been minimized, misunderstood, or addressed only after a serious problem has already developed. Women deserve medicine, research, and care grounded in the realities of their own physiology.
They also deserve information early enough to use it.
Science should not remain locked inside medical journals or communicated in a way that excludes women from understanding their own health. My responsibility is to translate complex research into practical decisions women can make in their daily lives.
Strength is not vanity. Muscle, bone density, balance, mobility, and metabolic health influence how fully we can work, lead, travel, care for the people we love, and remain independent.
Women deserve a plan for protecting those things before they begin to lose them.
What’s one small thing you did in your business to bring more meaning or light into the work you do?

I made a decision to listen more closely to where women needed my expertise most.
I made the decision to direct more of my expertise toward the place where I believed it was most urgently needed.
I was already an orthopedic sports surgeon, researcher, author, and main-stage speaker. I had spent decades treating athletes and active adults, leading orthopedic programs, publishing research, and studying musculoskeletal aging and performance.
But I could see that women entering perimenopause and menopause were experiencing profound changes in their bones, muscles, joints, metabolism, and physical capacity without a clear framework for understanding what was happening.
I chose to focus more intentionally on that gap.
What began as a shift in focus grew into the Unbreakable framework, a connected body of clinical care, research, books, education, speaking, media, products, events, and programs designed to help women move from awareness to action.
The work is still grounded in everything I learned as a surgeon and researcher, but it is now directed toward helping women understand their bodies before something breaks.
For me, bringing more meaning into the work meant recognizing where my experience could have the greatest impact and building around that need.
What would you tell the woman reading this who sees herself in your story but hasn’t started yet?
Until you believe you are worth the daily investment in your health, nothing else will matter.
Your future is not predetermined. Every day, you are building it through the choices you make.
You do not have to change your entire life at once. Begin by taking your health seriously enough to learn what is happening in your body. Build muscle. Protect your bones. Move consistently. Ask questions. Get the information and care you need before pain, weakness, or a diagnosis forces you to pay attention.
Midlife is not the end of your strongest years. It is one of the most important opportunities you have to shape the decades ahead.
You are worth the time, the attention, and the investment.
Your strongest decades are not something you wait for. They are something you build.
